MAGICKA DRAGONKNIGHT BUILD

Magicka Draonknight Build

Writer: @xGAMxHQ
Role: DPS – Support DPS
Patch: Update 44

TABLE OF CONTENTS

The Scorch Magicka Dragonknight Build for ESO (The Elder Scrolls Online) is optimized for all players looking for the ultimate build guide on setups for Trials, Dungeons, and Arenas. Whether you’re a beginner, a long-time veteran, or just returning to the game, this page covers everything you need to know, including recommended armor setups, skills, champion points, and many alternatives to meet various needs. Remember to read the entire build and bookmark the page to keep up with updates!

The Magicka Dragonknight specializes in DOT (Damage over Time) and Flame Damage abilities. Dragonknights have three skill lines to aid you in combat:

The Ardent Flame skill line focuses on offensive abilities, most of which are incredibly powerful and essential to this build. Molten Whip is your main single-target damage ability that has its split between Magicka and Stamina, making it very easy to sustain. Molten Whip also grants you a stackable buff called Seething Fury when you use other abilities from this skill line, increasing your Weapon and Spell Damage by 100 per stack, up to 3.

The Draconic Power skill line focuses primarily on defensive abilities; however, Burning Talons is one of the strongest burst DOT abilities that also provides a synergy to a group member that deals additional burst damage to all enemies affected by the talons.

The Earthen Heart skill line has a mixed focus on group support and defensive and healing abilities. Igneous Weapons grants the Major Brutality and Sorcery buffs to the entire group, and each time you cast it, you grant the Minor Brutality buff group-wide for 20 seconds due to the Mountain’s Blessing passive.

The Damage Dealer (DPS) role in ESO is responsible for dealing with the most critical mechanics and enemies in the proper order. You must also learn to position yourself in a way that keeps you out of enemy AOE and cleave abilities, allowing your support roles to do their jobs as well. Your support roles will do their best to group and debuff enemies while buffing and healing you. Failing to do so will most likely lead to you not receiving heals and buffs and could even cause a group wipe.

High Elves provide a great blend of offensive stat boosts and self-sustain, increasing your Maximum Magicka by 2,000, Weapon and Spell Damage by 258, and restoring 625 Magicka or Stamina every 6 seconds you activate an ability. The resource it restores is based on whichever is lowest.

Dark Elves excel at hybridized builds, increasing your Maximum Magicka and Stamina by 1,910 and your Weapon and Spell Damage by 258. Even though they don’t provide you with any additional self-sustain, they do have significant resistance to Flame Damage.

Khajiit are another excellent option for hybridized builds, increasing your Maximum Health, Magicka, and Stamina by 915 and your Health, Magicka, and Stamina Recovery by 90. They also provide a unique passive that increases your Critical Damage by 12%.

Though all races are capable of making good Damage Dealers, the Magicka Dragonknight Build utilizes the High Elf racial passives for the increased Maximum Magicka, Weapon and Spell Damage, and self-sustain. Choose a race that best suits your needs.

ATTRIBUTE POINTS

MAGICKA

64

HEALTH

0

STAMINA

0

All Attribute Points are distributed into Magicka regardless of your choice of race and armor setup, as Health is not critical to the Magicka Dragonknight build.

You should aim to have a Maximum Magicka value that exceeds your Maximum Stamina value. Doing so ensures that you always restore Magicka when you activate the Luminous Shards or Energy Orb synergy provided by your Healers.

TRIAL SETUPS

Below are three Trial Setups for the Magicka Dragonknight Build, each optimized for their respective roles in Trial content.

The Damaged-Focused Setup utilizes Dungeon and Trial sets to maximize your single-target damage output.

The Support-Focused Setup utilizes Dungeon and Trial sets, commonly referred to as a “Support DPS” role with the aim to maintain good uptimes on sets that offer vital group buffs and enemy debuffs that increase overall group damage in exchange for lowering your damage.

The AOE-Focused Setup utilizes Dungeon and Trial sets combined with a unique skill loadout to maximize your AOE damage output.

Slimecraw increases your Critical Chance by 3.5%, the highest bonus you can get from wearing one piece of a Monster Set.

Arms of Relequen works best in single-target fights as it applies a stacking Damage Over Time (DOT) effect to an enemy for 5 seconds each time you light attack them. It also provides the Minor Slayer buff, increasing your damage dealt to Dungeon, Trial, and Arena Monsters by 5%. Because this set is only active while on your front bar, you need to light attack at least once every 5 seconds on your front bar to maintain 10 stacks.

Runecarver’s Blaze adds even more damage to your DOT abilities and is currently one of the top DPSing sets on the Dragonknight class. The better you can maintain your DOT ability uptimes, the better this set will perform.

Harpooner’s Wading Kilt is a staple Mythic Item for most DPS builds in ESO. Each time you deal direct damage, you gain 1 stack of Hunter’s Focus for 20 seconds. At 10 stacks, you gain 5% Critical Chance and 10% Critical Damage; however, when you take direct damage, you lose 5 stacks of Hunter’s Focus.
  • During fights where you may take a lot of direct damage from enemies, you won’t be able to maintain stacks of Hunter’s Focus. It’s best to adjust your gear setup to an alternative Mythic like Velothi Ur-Mage’s Amulet or a Monster Set such as Zaan.

Merciless Charge activates upon casting Stampede for 18 seconds. It increases your damage done with direct damage abilities by up to 560, depending on how high your Weapon or Spell Damage is. As long as you maintain Stampede’s DOT uptime, you will have no problem keeping this set active.
  • Alternatively, you can use Crushing Wall for a more Magicka-focused build; however, you will deal less DPS overall and have more trouble sustaining Magicka.

Encratis’s Behemoth creates a 12m aura around you for 12 seconds that increases enemy Flame Damage taken by 5% while they’re inside it. It also reduces Flame Damage taken by 5% for you and up to 11 of your group members.
  • If your group lacks Flame Damage abilities, you can use a strong single-target Monster Set such as Zaan.

Roar of Alkosh sends a shockwave in front of you that reduces the Physical and Spell Resistance of all enemies hit by it up to 6000 for 10 seconds, depending on how high your Weapon or Spell Damage is. It also provides the Minor Slayer buff, increasing your damage dealt to Dungeon, Trial, and Arena Monsters by 5%. Because this set is only active while on your front bar, you will need to activate synergies on your front bar.

Z’en’s Redress causes your light attacks to apply a stacking debuff to an enemy that increases their damage taken by up to 5% for 20 seconds. To reach the maximum of 5%, you will need at least 5 of your DOT abilities active on them. Because this set is only active while on your back bar, you will need to light attack on your back bar at least every 20 seconds to maintain 5 stacks.

It’s best to adjust your gear setup to an alternative Mythic like Velothi Ur-Mage’s Amulet.

AOE-FOCUSED

The AOE-Focused gear setup utilizes two Inferno Staves to maximum your AOE damage output.

Grothdarr creates an 8m lava pool around you that deals Flame Damage to all enemies inside it for 5 seconds, making it an excellent option for quickly dealing with AOE fights.

Sul-Xan’s Torment spawns a vengeful soul from an enemy you recently damaged when they die. Touching the soul increases your Critical Chance by 9.8% and Critical Damage by 12%. It also provides the Minor Slayer buff, increasing your damage dealt to Dungeon, Trial, and Arena Monsters by 5%. Using this set during AOE fights allows you to quickly increase your Critical Chance and Critical Damage without the risk of losing it, as you do when you take direct damage while using the Harpooner’s Wading Kilt Mythic Item.

Burning Spellweave is primarily used to increase your Weapon and Spell Damage by 490 for 8 seconds. Most of your DPS will come from your front bar during a trash pull. Running Burning Spellweave on the back bar only allows you to get the full benefit from the 5-piece bonus while running a Monster Set and a Mythic Item.

Velothi Ur-Mage’s Amulet increases your Offensive Penetration, damage done to Monsters, and grants you Minor Force while equipped; however, it reduces your light attack damage by 99%. You will still need to damage enemies with light attacks to generate Ultimate. While Velothi doesn’t increase your overall damage as much as Harpooner’s Wading Kilt, it’s a fantastic alternative in situations where you may be taking a lot of direct damage.

INTERMEDIATE SETUP

The Intermediate Setup for the Magicka Dragonknight Build is optimized for Damage Dealers that may not be ready for Trial content but want to replace crafted sets. Many Dungeon and Overland sets are easy to collect while effective in early to mid-game content.

If you have a surplus of Transmute Crystals and think you will be using this setup for a while, you could Transmute your jewelry from Arcane to Bloodthirsty and your Main Hand Dagger from Charged to Nirnhoned.

Slimecraw increases your Critical Chance by 3.5%, the highest bonus you can get from wearing one piece of a Monster Set.

Aegis Caller is an excellent set for increasing your AOE damage output. It summons an aegis when you deal martial melee damage (Physical, Bleed, Poison, or Disease Damage within 7m) that spins and damages everything within range. If you’re confident in your ability to handle Normal Trial content, you could skip this set and go straight for Arms of Relequen, even the non-Perfected version of the set will deal incredible single-target damage, as the Perfected version isn’t going to make or break this build.

Burning Spellweave is primarily used to increase your Weapon and Spell Damage by 490 for 8 seconds; however, it also applies the Burning status effect to an enemy and increases many of your core combat stats. This set is also used in the AOE-focused setup geared towards mid-late game. If you have the proper DLC or ESO+, you could skip this set and go straight for Runecarver’s Blaze for even more single-target DPS.

BEGINNER SETUP

Your options for beginner gear are typically limited to crafted sets or something cheap in guild stores. The Beginner Setup for the Magicka Dragonknight Build includes only crafted sets and is optimized for freshly created characters and CP160 Damage Dealers looking for an excellent build to start farming more challenging content.

Spell Parasite increases Weapons and Spell Damage and is equipped until you can obtain a suitable monster set to replace it.

Order’s Wrath significantly increases for Critical Chance and Critical Damage. It’s incredibly helpful during the early stages of building a character since they won’t have access to Barbed Trap yet.

Law of Julianos significantly improves your core combat stats, which will increase self-healing and damage output.

While this configuration is not required, it will provide the most optimal progression path for a beginner DPS.

These potions are generic world-dropped potions and are not worth crafting.

CHAMPION POINTS

The Champion Point (CP) system in ESO provides many powerful benefits that allow you to customize and strengthen your build. It is unlocked at Level 50 and maxes out at 3600 points. The CP system has three unique constellations: Craft, Warfare, and Fitness. The Warfare and Fitness constellations each have three subtrees.

 • The Craft constellation focuses on crafting, gold gain, movement speed, stealth, and increasing material yields.
 • The Warfare constellation focuses on increasing damage, healing, and damage mitigation.

TIPS & TRICKS

Below you will find how to begin a Dynamic rotation. This means you activate your skills accordingly depending on the situation and duration of your skills. It yields the best possible DPS and resource management but can be more difficult to master.

LA = Light Attack

Pre-buff with Flames of Oblivion and Igneous Weapons.

Begin combat on your front bar:
Barbed Trap > LA > Burning Talons > Bar Swap >
LA > Stampede > LA > Venomous Claw > LA > Engulfing Flames > LA > Eruption > LA > Standard of Might > Bar Swap >
LA > Molten Whip until your DOT abilities need to be reapplied.

MAY 06 / 2024: – UPDATE 41 – SCIONS OF ITHELIA
• Added an AOE-Focused armor setup.

APRIL 24 / 2023:
